The aftercare of your tattoo will greatly determine the way your tattoo will look once it has fully healed.
Wear your bandage for about 1 hour then remove and wash the tattoo area gently with antibacterial soap. Gently pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do NOT rub back and forth.
Apply a very small amount of Aquaphor or any fragrance free healing ointment to your tattoo a few minutes after washing. Pat off any excess ointment if necessary. You should have no ointment build up on your tattoo.
You will need to wash your tattoo 1-2 times daily as above for the first 5-7 days. Re apply ointment as needed to keep the skin moisturized. Do not pick any scabbing or peel any flaking. This can cause your tattoo to bleed, pull ink out or cause scaring during the healing process.
Avoid body washes, lotions or shampoos with fragrance. Also avoid pet hair or dander that may be on clothes or sheets this can also irritate the tattoo during the healing process. Avoid pools, hot tubs, baths and lakes for at least two weeks. Avoid direct exposure to sun.
After your tattoo has fully healed you will want to apply sunscreen to keep it bright and looking new. DO NOT put sunscreen on a tattoo that has not fully healed.
